International Friendlies 2026 Round-Up: England Stunned Late by Uruguay; Argentina, Spain And Germany Cruise to Wins

The England national football team were held to a 1-1 draw by the Uruguay national football team in a lacklustre friendly at Wembley, with Ben White at the centre of the drama.

England fielded an experimental side, leaving out several regular starters, which showed in their early lack of cohesion. The first half was largely uneventful, with Marcus Rashford providing the only real spark, while Phil Foden struggled in a central role away from his usual position.

The breakthrough came after the interval when Cole Palmer injected energy into England's attack. His corner set up White, who turned in a close-range finish to give the hosts a late lead. However, White's night turned sour in stoppage time when a rash challenge conceded a penalty, which Federico Valverde calmly converted to earn a deserved equaliser for Uruguay

Argentina Holds On for Narrow Win Against Mauritania Despite Late Scare

Argentina managed to scrape a 2-1 win against Mauritania in an international friendly game last Friday, March 27, at La Bombonera.

It was a big surprise that Lionel Messi was on the bench at the beginning of the match, but that did not stop Argentina from playing brilliantly and mostly dominating the first half. They got their first goal when Enzo Fernndez reacted quickest after Nahuel Molina's beautifully timed cross, not long after the piece of play started, i.e. in the 17th minute. Hosts got their penalty in the 32nd minute when Nico Paz's free-kick was beautifully curled to cap a very good first half.

After the restart, Messi came off the bench, but there was a significant decline in the players' spirits, and in the second half, the team couldn't even manage one shot on target, even though Messi's shot was the one that was blocked by the Mauritanian defenders.

Once Argentina started losing their rhythm, Mauritania got more and more involved and were challenging the goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez almost all the time. Their struggle was finally rewarded near the end of the game when Jordan Lefort netted after a scramble in the box, and thus, he made the score 2-1, and he created a very exciting closing. Even though it was very close, Argentina maintained their composure and was able to get the points. They still have a lot of work to do if their second-half level of play is anything to go by.

Mikel Oyarzabal starred with a brace, while Munoz added a third to complete a comprehensive victory, solidifying Spain's status as one of the favourites to lift the trophy.

Netherlands Edge Norway 2-1 in Amsterdam

The Netherlands secured an important 2-1 win over Norway, the side that had troubled Italy in earlier matches. The hosts fell behind to a goal from Schjelderup, but Virgil van Dijk and former Milan player Reijnders turned the game around.

Notable contributions came from Teun Koopmeiners and Denzel Dumfries with assists, while Malin and Stefan de Vrij also featured prominently in the comeback.
