IPL 2026: Why Royal Challengers Bengaluru Received Two Warnings During RCB vs DC Clash at Chinnaswamy - Explained

RCB vs DC, IPL 2026: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have found themselves in a tricky spot in the ongoing IPL 2026 match against the Delhi Capitals at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 18, Saturday.

The on-field umpires have warned the players twice for taking too much time to start an over, making especially their captain, Rajat Patidar walking on thin ice.

RCB vs DC, IPL 2026: How much time are players supposed to take in between overs?

According to rules, the players are supposed to take only 60 seconds in between every over but the Royal Challengers seemingly took at least 70 seconds to start an over, forcing the umpires to take action. A third warning could result in a five-run penalty for the Royal Challengers, proving it detrimental for the overall result of the match for the defending champions.

RCB vs DC, IPL 2026: Phil Salt’s half-century takes Royal Challengers Bengaluru to 175 at the Chinnaswamy Stadium

It was Capitals skipper Axar Patel, who won the toss and sent the defending champions into bat. Virat Kohli and Phil Salt started once again in fiery fashion, stitching a 52-run stand, broken by Lungi Ngidi by dismissing the former for 19. Nevertheless, Phil Salt reached his second half-century of the season before falling for 63 off 38 deliveries.

But the remaining RCB batters struggled, with only Tim David going past 20 as the Capitals bowled outstandingly at the death, hardly allowing the Royal Challengers to get any big overs under their belt. Ngidi, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel picked up two wickets to limit the hosts to 175/8 in 20 overs. At the time of writing this, the Capitals found themselves in a promising position, lifting themselves to 130/3 after 15 overs, needing 46 more off the final 30 deliveries as Axar Patel and Tristan Stubbs were at the crease. The current spot has the visiting side favourite in the contest.

The Royal Challengers are currently in the second spot behind Punjab Kings, while the Capitals are languishing at the bottom half of the points table.
