PSL 2026: The second game of PSL 2026 saw Karachi Kings go up against Quetta Gladiators at the Gaddafi Stadium. Quetta captain Saud Shakeel won the toss and chose to field first.
Karachi posted a competitive 181-7 on the board. Moeen Ali led the charge with an unbeaten 48, while David Warner and Saad Baig added useful contributions of 35 and 30.
Shamyl Hussain Steals the Show on PSL Debut
Chasing the target, Saud Shakeel walked out to open with young Shamyl Hussain, who was making his PSL debut. The 21-year-old immediately grabbed attention with his fearless approach.
He got off the mark in style, driving Mir Hamza through the covers, and soon followed it up with a six. He then took on Hassan Ali, hitting him for both a boundary and a six in quick succession.
Shamyl didn't slow down. He smashed Shahid Aziz for another maximum, and in the sixth over, he attacked Hamza again with three fours and a six. That big hit brought up a blazing half-century in just 21 balls.
His impressive innings ended soon after when he was dismissed by Salman Agha, but by then, he had already made a strong statement.
Who is Shamyl Hussain
Shamyl Hussain may be new to the PSL stage, but he has been building his reputation for a while. He was earlier part of the Islamabad United squad and was picked up by Quetta Gladiators for 84 lakh rupees ahead of PSL 2026.
His selection came after a brilliant domestic run. He scored 899 runs in nine matches in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy and followed it up with 452 runs in nine games in the President’s One-Day Cup. During November and December, he also put together six back-to-back scores of fifty or more across formats.
He represented Pakistan in the 2024 U19 World Cup as an opening batter, scoring 151 runs at an average of 30.20, including a half-century.
From his early days, Shamyl has shown strong consistency. In the 2020-21 season, he scored 291 runs in six matches in Pakistan's U16 tournament. He later finished among the top run-scorers in the 2022-23 Pakistan Junior League and also impressed for Pakistan Shaheens in the Top End T20 series in July 2023.
