India were crowned the champions after they defeated New Zealand in the T20 World Cup 2026 final in Ahmedabad on Sunday. The Men in Blue bundled out New Zealand in 159 while chasing 256 and won by 96 runs.
Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma provided a brisk start to the proceedings posting 92 in the first 6 overs while Ishan Kishan carried the momentum later on. Shivam Dube too chipped in with an important 26* off 8 to help India post 255/5.
But the Indian bowlers who took the onus on themselves and didn’t let the opposition take upper hand. Pacer Jasprit Bumrah starred for India who scalped four wickets for 15 runs in 4 overs and moved straight up to the top spot in the leading wicket-takers list.
Varun Chakravarthy who started off the tournament really well but lost form in the later phase. Yet, the right-arm spinner concluded the tournament at number two in the tally. The bowlers have played a massive role in India’s triumph.

Jasprit Bumrah
Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah tops the chart with 14 wickets in 8 matches. Bumrah who scalped 4/15 in the finale at the Narendra Modi Stadium bowled at an economy of 6.21. “Feels extremely special because I’ve played one final in my home venue but couldn’t win that one, but today I won. I knew wicket was a flat one so had to use all my experience. Before this tournament I was in that zone where I felt I was trying too hard because I was bowling well but felt I was trying too hard. This tournament I just tried to let the game come to me, and that worked really well. My individual assessment has always been my strength and getting MOTM at my home ground in a World Cup final, it doesn’t get better than that,” he said after the match.
Varun Chakravarthy
Indian spinner Varun Charavarthy is the next in the tally. The right-arm bowler bagged 14 wickets in 9 matches. Chakravarthy had 9 wickets to his name in the first four matches that he played but lost the plot a bit in the middle and started to leak runs at a very high economy rate. He took five more wickets in the next five games that he played.
Shadley Claude van Schalkwyk
USA’s medium pacer Shadley Claude van Schalkwyk who had held the helm position for a very long time eventually ended at number three. He picked up 13 wickets in just 4 matches and bowled at an economy of 6.80. Shadley Claude van Schalkwyk made headlines picking up four-fers in his first two matches. Moreover, they came against big teams like India and Pakistan. The right-arm medium pacer then added five more scalps to his name, taking three wickets against Netherlands and two against Namibia before the campaign came to an end.
Blessing Muzarabani
Zimbabwe’s Blessing Muzarabani bagged 13 wickets in 6 matches bowling at an economy of 7.88. The right arm pacer also played a key role in Zimbabwe’s successful campaign. He started off with a three-fer against Oman while picked up four wickets against Australia and a couple each against Sri Lanka and West Indies. Zimbabwe reached the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2026.
Adil Rashid
England spinner Adil Rashid is on fifth with 13 wickets in 8 matches. The right-arm spinner’s impressive performances came against West Indies where he returned with figures of 2/16 and Scotland where he bagged three wickets. Rashid also picked up two wickets for 28 runs against New Zealand.
