English football club giant Liverpool will step into the cauldron of Parc des Princes in Paris to face a strong Paris Saint Germain outfit in the first leg of UEFA Champions League quarter-finals on Thursday.
The two sides will face one another in a rematch of the previous season’s last-16 contest and is expected to be a high-stakes encounter.
Harking back to the previous season’s tie between PSG and Liverpool, the former progressed to the next round on penalties after both sides won by a scoreline of 1-0 once each. Luis Enrique used that win as a springboard to seal their maiden Champions League triumph by leaving Inter Milan dazed in the decider. PSG are in outstanding form, of late, headlined by defeating Chelsea in an aggregate margin of 8-2 in the Round of 16 to set up a clash against Liverpool. They have also got an extra day to prepare for the quarter-final, given they will not be in action in Ligue 1 before the following week’s second leg.
Liverpool, meanwhile, are currently walking on thin ice. They went down 4-0 comprehensively to Manchester City last weekend to exit the FA Cup and are now languishing in the fifth spot in the Premier League points table. Hence, it will be a tall ask for Liverpool, especially with PSG striking form at the right time.
