Here comes the day all Indian athletics fans have been waiting for, as Neeraj Chopra, aka India’s golden boy, will be in action today, July 30 (Thursday), at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in the men’s javelin throw event, aiming to win his second Commonwealth Games gold medal.
He will face a star-studded field, including his Pakistani rival Arshad Nadeem.
The two-time Olympic medallist won his first and only Commonwealth Games gold medal at the 2018 Gold Coast Games. He missed the 2022 Birmingham edition due to a groin injury. Now, eight years later, he will be looking to clinch another gold and add a fourth gold medal to India’s campaign. India are currently placed eighth in the overall medal standings with three gold, nine silver, and three bronze medals.
Chopra, who bagged Silver at the Paris Olympics 2024, is entering Glasgow on the back of a series of average performances, with no gold at the Doha Diamond League 2026, where he finished 4th on June 19, 2026, with a throw of 85.69m after securing his CWG qualification standard.
Last year, at the World Athletics Championships, he witnessed the worst performance of career, ending campaign 8th with an 84.03m throw in September 2025. Today is the opportunity Neeraj was looking for, to finally end his gold-less streak.
When will Neeraj Chopra be in action today at the Commonwealth Games 2026?
The Tokyo Olympic gold medallist will be in action in the men’s javelin throw qualification today, July 30, with the event scheduled to begin at 2:55 PM IST.
If Neeraj qualifies, he will return to action in the final on July 31. The final will start at 12:45 PM IST on August 1.
