Who is Abdul Mateen Patel? Political Links & Connection With Nida Khan Surface in TCS Nashik Conversion Case as Police Detain AIMIM Councillor

Who is Abdul Mateen Patel? Political Links & Connection With Nida Khan Surface in TCS Nashik Conversion Case as Police Detain AIMIM Councillor

Abdul Mateen Patel, a councillor linked to the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) in Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, has come under the spotlight after police detained him in connection with the controversial TCS Nashik conversion and sexual harassment case.

Investigators allege Patel helped one of the key accused, Nida Khan, avoid arrest while she remained absconding for several weeks.

The case has already triggered intense political debate in Maharashtra because of allegations involving religious conversion, workplace harassment and political interference. Patel's detention has now added a fresh political dimension to the ongoing investigation.

Who is Abdul Mateen Patel?

Abdul Mateen Patel is an AIMIM councillor from Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, formerly known as Aurangabad. He is associated with the party led by Asaduddin Owaisi and has been active in local civic politics in Maharashtra.

Patel represents an area that recently came under police scrutiny after investigators traced the accused Nida Khan to a residential apartment in the locality. Authorities now suspect Patel may have assisted Khan while she was allegedly hiding from police.

Police officials detained Patel on Friday and began questioning him as part of the wider probe into the Nashik case.

Why Did Police Detain Abdul Mateen Patel?

According to investigators, Patel faces allegations under Section 249 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with helping an accused person evade legal action.

Police claim Patel allegedly helped Nida Khan while she remained absconding for nearly 25 days. Khan was finally arrested in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar on Thursday before being transferred to Nashik for further questioning.

Investigators believe Khan stayed at an apartment linked to relatives during the period she was missing.

Who is Nida Khan?

Nida Khan worked as a telecaller at a TCS-linked BPO unit in Nashik and is considered one of the major accused in the ongoing investigation.

Police accuse Khan of:

  • Hurting religious sentiments
  • Encouraging religious conversion
  • Discouraging victims from filing complaints
  • Assisting accused persons in alleged sexual harassment and exploitation cases

Authorities earlier clarified that Khan was not an HR official, contrary to initial reports, but worked in a telecalling role at the company's BPO operations.

What is the TCS Nashik Case?

The TCS Nashik controversy revolves around serious allegations made by several women employees working at a BPO unit linked to Tata Consultancy Services operations in Nashik.

Women between the ages of 18 and 25 accused senior colleagues and team leaders of:

  • Sexual harassment
  • Molestation
  • Stalking
  • Religious coercion
  • Forced relationship pressure
  • Attempts at religious conversion

Some complainants alleged they were pressured to perform namaz, wear hijab or burqa and consume non-vegetarian food despite objections. FIRs also mention allegations involving derogatory remarks about Hindu religious beliefs inside the workplace.

Police said multiple FIRs have now been registered against several accused individuals, including Danish Sheikh, Tausif Attar, Raza Memon, Shahrukh Qureshi, Shafi Shaikh and Asif Ansari.

AIMIM Reacts to the Case

The detention of Patel and the arrest of Nida Khan prompted a response from AIMIM leader Imtiaz Jaleel, who accused sections of the media of creating a "false atmosphere" around the investigation.

Jaleel defended the principle of legal due process and said accused individuals have the right to seek judicial relief. He also criticised political commentary surrounding the investigation and urged that police should be allowed to complete their work independently.

Targeting Maharashtra minister Sanjay Shirsat, Jaleel alleged that attempts were being made to politicise the controversy.

TCS Nida Khan Case: Why the Case Has Become Politically Sensitive?

The Nashik case has rapidly evolved from a workplace investigation into a major political controversy in Maharashtra. The allegations involving religion, workplace exploitation and political links have intensified public attention.

With multiple FIRs already filed and more questioning underway, investigators are expected to continue examining whether any political figures actively helped accused individuals evade police action.
