T20 Mumbai League 2026: SunRisers Hyderabad and Eagle Thane Strikers pacer Onkar Tarmale is currently breathing fire in the T20 Mumbai League 2026 game against Aakash Tigers MWS at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Having bowled only two overs, Tarmale has picked up three wickets, including a hat-trick. He is notably only the second bowler in T20 Mumbai League history to take a hat-trick, with the first belonging to Ankush Jaiswal, who achieved the feat in May 2019.
T20 Mumbai League 2026: Who is Onkar Tarmale?
Born on August 22, 2002, the 23-year-old hasn’t played T20 cricket at the very highest level and has only boasts of four matches professionally, four of which have come in first-class cricket, while two of them are in the List A format. Tarmale was part of T20 Mumbai League last year too and is currently in his second season. He impressed in the first match of the 2026 edition too, picking up figures of 4-0-28-3 as he restricted the Bandra Blasters to 189, following which the Strikers chased down the score easily.
In the ongoing fixture against the Aakash Tigers MWS, the latter had raised to 29/0 in two overs and Tarmale conceded a boundary off the very first ball. However, the youngster came back exceptionally well, dismissing Varun Lavande (10), Akash Anand (0) and Ajit Yadav (0), thereby claiming a hat-trick and making history.
Will Onkar Tarmale get a game for the SunRisers Hyderabad in IPL 2027?
Due to Tarmale’s penchant for bowling at serious pace, he was bought by the SunRisers Hyderabad for ₹30 lakh in the mini auction. However, the 23-year-old didn’t get a game in the season, with the likes of Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain getting opportunities. Given the wheels Tarmale has been bowling in, he is likely to get more opportunities in the 2027 edition.
With Pat Cummins strongly hinting at skipping IPL 2027 to manage his workload ahead of an exceptionally busy period for Australian cricket, the Orange Army could use Tarmale’s services in their playing eleven. Ishan Kishan could likely be appointed as captain if Cummins decides to sit out of IPL 2027. Despite not being billed as favourites for the title, the SunRisers punched above their weight and reached the playoffs of the ten-team tournament.
