A Florida-based cosmetologist who traveled to the Bay Area to perform silicone butt injections has been convicted in connection with the 2023 death of a 34-year-old social media model.
A San Mateo County jury found Vivian Alexandra Gomez, 53, guilty of felony involuntary manslaughter, inflicting great bodily injury, and practicing medicine without a license. The verdict came Monday after a 15-day trial and roughly three hours of deliberation, according to reporting first published by CBS Miami.

Vivian Alexandra Gomez is a Florida-based cosmetologist who prosecutors say operated outside of licensed medical practice while offering cosmetic procedures such as silicone injections. Authorities allege she traveled across the country to perform an unregulated procedure that ultimately led to a fatal medical emergency.
She was extradited to San Mateo County after returning to Florida following the April 2023 incident. Since then, she has faced criminal charges tied to the death and has been held in custody during proceedings, with bail previously set at $200,000.
Hotel Meeting Led to Fatal Procedure
Prosecutors said Gomez flew to the Bay Area on April 19, 2023, to meet Christina Ashten Gourkani, a 34-year-old TikTok, Instagram, and OnlyFans personality, along with Gourkani's boyfriend.
The group met at a hotel room inside the San Francisco Airport Marriott Waterfront in Burlingame, where Gomez administered non-FDA-approved silicone injections to Gourkani's buttocks.

Shortly after the procedure, Gourkani reportedly became ill. Her boyfriend later said she experienced a sudden medical emergency and went into cardiac arrest. She was pronounced dead soon after. Health authorities, including the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, have warned that injectable silicone can cause severe complications if it enters the bloodstream, including stroke or death.
Sentencing Ahead
Gomez now faces sentencing scheduled for May 5 and could receive up to seven years in state prison.
