The deaths of an Indian-origin family in London have left friends, colleagues and residents searching for answers. Among those who died was Aditi Paralkar, a respected construction industry consultant who had built a successful career in the United Kingdom while caring for her young son with complex medical needs.
Aditi (46), her husband Rakesh Pai (47) and their nine-year-old son Sid were found dead after a fall from their apartment in a luxury residential tower in Elephant and Castle, south London, on May 27.
They lived on the 45-story building on the 36th floor, which is approx 400ft from the ground. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, while an inquest is expected to determine exactly what happened.

Another friend questioned speculation surrounding the incident and said, “None of this makes sense to us because while it was obvious that Adi was struggling, Robin was the composed one of the two. He was actually handling things quite well, given Sid’s illness and the pressure they were all under.
“Hopefully, the inquest will get to the bottom of what happened because at the moment, none of us has got a clue.”

Rakesh Pai, known to friends as Robin, worked as a financial consultant and project manager. During his career, he worked with several major banking institutions, including Barclays, Santander and Deutsche Bank.
Friends described him as a “people’s person” who actively volunteered with charitable organisations, including groups supporting people living with dementia and visual impairments.
Residents who knew the couple said they were valued members of their local community and had plans to return permanently to their home in Clapham after temporarily living in Elephant and Castle.
