Sandboxes Don't Always Behave Like Production

Salesforce offers a variety of sandbox environments. Developer, Developer Pro, Partial Copy, and Full Copy, to test and validate changes before they go live. The goal is to test everything safely before it goes live to real users. But in practice, testing isn't that simple.

The main challenge here is the difference in data volume. Partial sandboxes contain only a small portion of the data in production. Therefore, performance issues or governor limit violations that occur when handling large amounts of data may not be detected there. A flow that works fine on 200 records in the sandbox may fail when it reaches 50,000 records in production.

Another issue is connections to other systems. Third-party integrations or external data sources are often not fully set up in the sandbox. A test that passes because the integration is not connected may fail when the actual connection is made in production.

Similarly, user profiles and permissions in the sandbox may differ over time from those in production. Everything may work fine when testing with an admin login in the sandbox, but an error may occur when a regular user uses it in production because they do not have the permissions.
