Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra has shifted his scheduled comedy shows in Bengaluru from a venue in Whitefield to another in Koramangala after protests by a Hindutva outfit over his performances.
The shows, originally scheduled from Monday to Thursday in Whitefield, were cancelled following objections raised by the Hindu Rashtra Samanvaya Samiti, which petitioned the Whitefield police seeking that Kamra not be allowed to perform.
The outfit alleged that the comedian had disrespected Hindu deities.
A senior police official from the Whitefield Division told that Kamra and the event organisers visited the Whitefield Police Station on Sunday and informed authorities that they had decided to cancel the Whitefield shows due to the controversy surrounding the event.
The official said no law and order incident was reported in connection with the scheduled performances.
Announcing the venue change on social media platform X, Kamra wrote, "Shows for Monday - Tuesday - Wednesday - Thursday shifted to Underground Comedy Club in Koramangala."
He also said those who had already booked tickets for the Whitefield shows would receive refunds and requested them to purchase fresh tickets for the Koramangala venue.
On Saturday, responding to objections from Hindutva activists, Kamra had invited them to meet him at the Whitefield Police Station on Sunday while he sought permission to perform. He said those opposing the shows were welcome to debate "comedy and culture."
He later posted that only senior journalist Aakar Patel had attended.
