Special summer trains have been introduced by the Northern Railway to accommodate and manage the summer rush at railway stations and trains.
According to official information, over 20 special trains, expected to run from April to July, have been launched to provide relief to passengers travelling in the Ambala Division and clear the summer rush, while more trains are under consideration.
Haridwar-Bhavnagar Special (09272) is being operated on Mondays from April 13 to June 1, while Katihar-Amritsar Special (05736) is being operated on Wednesday from April 1 to May 27. The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-New Delhi Special (04082) will be operated on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from April 16 to July 16, and the Chandigarh Patna special (04512) will be operated on Thursday from April 16 to July 9.
Similarly, the Kolkata Terminal-Amritsar Special (04623) will be operated on Thursday from April 16 to July 2, while the Jhanjharpur-Firozpur (04619) will be operated on Monday from April 20 to June 25. The Varanasi-Bathinda special (04519) will operate on Thursday and Sunday from April 16 to July 16.
According to a railway official, during summer vacations, railways witness a heavy surge in passengers and to manage and clear the extra traveller traffic, summer special trains are introduced every year. The summer special services ensure seamless connectivity and ease congestion on the high-demand routes. The railway divisions keep assessing the requirement of trains and introduce specials when needed. While operations of a few trains have already started, the remaining will resume will become operational in the next few days.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (Northern Railway Ambala Division) Yashanjit Singh said, "The Ambala Division has already prepared a complete plan and sent it to the railway headquarters. The division has already been granted three special trains and more are under consideration."
"For rush management, teams comprising officials from the RPF and commercial branch of the division are activated. A close watch is kept on all the stations to maintain law and order. Nodal officers are also appointed at every station to handle the traffic during the summer season," he added.
Divisional Railway Manager (Northern Railway Ambala Division) Vinod Bhatia said, "A complete plan for the specials is prepared after analysing the requirement on the basis of waiting lists of the origin and destination stations. Extra coaches are added to trains for the convenience of passengers. All efforts are being made to ensure smooth services during the summer rush."
