Panchkula police have dismantled an organised international drug trafficking network, arresting a BCA graduate, while seizing 3.89 kg heroin and Rs 15 lakh drug money.
The heroin is estimated to be worth over Rs 6 crore in the international market, making it the largest recovery in Panchkula district so far.
Accused Lovejot Singh, 23, a resident of Jalalabad, Fazilka, was arrested near Sector 20, Kundi village, on April 5.
The accused was currently living in a rented house in Chandigarh and was spreading the network in the Tricity. Cops said Lovejot Singh had brought the consignment from the Pakistan border and intended to sell the drug in the Tricity within a week and slip away.
A case was registered against the accused under the NDPS Act at Sector-20 police station. He was produced in court on April 6, where the police obtained a four-day remand.
DCP Crime and Traffic Amarinder Singh further stated that this entire network is linked to another arrest made on April 3. Acting on a tip-off, Sector-26 crime branch had previously arrested Sahil, of Dera Bassi, from Tabar village in Raipur Rani with 310g heroin.
Sahil’s interrogation revealed that he procured the contraband from his maternal uncle’s son, Satnam Singh.
The police laid a trap and apprehended Satnam Singh on April 5, who, during his questioning, revealed that his main supplier was Lovejot Singh.
DCP Crime and Traffic Amarinder Singh said, “We will go to the root of this network and put every small and big smuggler involved behind bars."
