A meeting to review the arrangements made regarding the Road Safety Campaign and Safe School Vehicles Policy in the district was held at the local Mini-Secretariat on Monday.

The meeting chaired by Mahendragarh Deputy Commissioner Anupama Anjali assessed the progress of the work being done to ensure road safety. RTA Secretary Manoj Kumar presented the agenda of the meeting and informed about the progress made so far. The Deputy Commissioner ordered the closure of illegal openings on the road from Mahavir Chowk to Lahroda Bypass within two weeks. She also ordered the immediate closure of the illegal eateries along the National Expressway No. 152-D.

District Superintendent of Police Deepak shared the action plan of the Police Department regarding enforcing the road-safety rules and closing the illegal openings.

The Deputy Commissioner directed that the Police and Transport Departments should jointly curb overloading in order to prevent mishaps. On this, RTA Secretary said in April, a fine of about Rs 1.98 crore had been imposed on 274 overloaded vehicles in the district. The meeting also discussed the safety of schoolchildren.

"The safety of students is the primary responsibility of the district administration and the government. All SDMs will conduct regular inspections of the buses and other vehicles of schools and coaching institutes in their respective areas," the DC said, adding that deployment of women conductors on the buses carrying girl students should also be ensured.

She appreciated that the average ambulance response time in the district was now 7 minutes and 44 seconds.

"The District Red Cross Society has provided first-aid training to 8,000 people in a month, which is also a big achievement," she said.
