Haryana's Health Minister Aarti Singh Rao on Tuesday announced that the Government Medical College currently under construction in the Charkhi Dadri district would be named after freedom fighter Rao Tula Ram.

She expressed her gratitude to the Central government and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini for this decision regarding the naming of the institution.

She specifically highlighted that Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh had been making persistent efforts to ensure this.

The Health Minister emphasised that such initiatives would provide the younger generation with an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the supreme sacrifices and struggles of the country’s great freedom fighters.

She noted that this medical college would not only set new benchmarks in the field of medicine but also serve as a significant source of inspiration for the youth, thereby motivating them to dedicate themselves to the service of the nation.

Speaking to the media at her official residence in Chandigarh today, she announced that, in an effort to improve management within the state’s government hospitals, the responsibility for sanitation and security arrangements in hospitals will be entrusted under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode.

The main objective of this initiative is to significantly bolster the safety and security of female patients, nurses, doctors, and other staff members within the hospitals. Adopting a firm stance on crimes committed against women, the Health Minister unequivocally declared that the perpetrators of such acts would not be spared under any circumstances.

In this context, she referred to the recent case of sexual harassment involving a minor girl at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Civil Hospital in Kurukshetra, noting that the police have registered a case against the accused consultant, and the government has taken immediate action by terminating his services. Reiterating her commitment to providing excellent healthcare facilities to the citizens of the state, Aarti Singh Rao stated that the government’s top priority is to ensure the availability of gynecologists, anesthesiologists, and pediatricians in all districts.

Her primary focus is on providing treatment facilities to women and children at government healthcare institutions located close to their homes. Providing an update on the ongoing initiatives in the healthcare sector, she informed that the government has initiated development works worth approximately Rs 104.16 crore to strengthen the medical infrastructure within the state. Additionally, under the 15th Finance Commission, the construction of 766 new healthcare institutions has been approved in the state; this includes 597 Sub-Health Centers, 51 Primary Health Centers (PHCs), 7 Community Health Centers (CHCs), and 111 Block Public Health Centers, aimed at bolstering the healthcare network at both rural and town levels.

Highlighting the efforts to provide modern amenities and affordable medicines to patients, the Health Minister noted that Tele-ECG services are being introduced in 600 healthcare institutions across the state for the convenience of cardiac patients. Furthermore, to ensure the availability of affordable and high-quality medicines for the general public, ‘Amrit Pharmacies’ have been established in 23 district hospitals.
