In alignment with the Union Territory-wide launch of the 100-day intensive campaign under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, districts across J&K on Saturday formally rolled out the initiative.
The campaign aims to curb drug abuse through a comprehensive and sustained approach, with a strong focus on awareness generation, community participation, rehabilitation of affected individuals, and strict enforcement measures.
In Anantnag, the district administration launched the campaign in sync with the UT-level initiative. To mark the start of the drive, a grand function was organised at the DC Office Complex.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner termed the fight against drugs a "collective responsibility." He noted that while the administration and law enforcement agencies are targeting the supply side, the role of parents, teachers, and civil society remains crucial in eliminating the menace. He stressed the need for mass sensitisation among youth and vulnerable groups to reduce demand.
In Pulwama, Deputy Commissioner Basharat Qayoom chaired a comprehensive review meeting to assess sector-wise preparedness and discuss the action plan for effective implementation over the next 100 days.
He said the campaign aims to eliminate drug abuse through coordinated efforts of all stakeholders. He emphasised a three-pronged strategy focusing on Information, Education and Communication (IEC), treatment and rehabilitation, and enforcement to achieve tangible results.
In Budgam, the district administration kickstarted the 100-day intensive Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan with a strong resolve to eliminate drug abuse and promote a healthier society.
The programme was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Athar Aamir Khan along with SSP Budgam Hariprasad KK at the Drug De-Addiction Centre Budgam, in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department, District Information Centre, Health Department, and Police.
The Deputy Commissioner highlighted the importance of a unified and sustained effort to tackle the growing drug menace, stating that the campaign is not merely an awareness initiative but a comprehensive approach combining prevention, enforcement, treatment, and rehabilitation.
In Kulgam, the campaign was launched with a series of awareness activities aimed at combating drug abuse and promoting a drug-free society. Deputy Commissioner Shahzad Alam, along with SSP Kulgam Anayat Ali Choudhary, flagged off the initiative. A plantation drive and a pledge-taking ceremony were also organised, where participants vowed to stay away from drugs and work collectively towards building a drug-free society.
A padyatra from Mini-Secretariat to DPL Kulgam was also held to mark the occasion.
