Western disturbance brings rains to northwest India; Delhi under yellow alert

Owing to western disturbance, northwest India witnessed rains on Tuesday, and as per the forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the rainfall spell will continue on Wednesday.

Moreover, a fresh western disturbance is likely to affect the Western Himalayan region from April 11.

The day temperatures will be lower than normal till April 15 thereby giving respite from heat.

In Delhi, IMD has sounded a yellow alert for rain. The day temperatures will be between 25-27 degrees Celsius and the evening temperatures will be between 16-18 degrees Celsius. However, from April 9, the day temperatures in the national capital will start soaring and the nights will be cool.

The western disturbance lies over northeast Pakistan and adjoining Afghanistan.

In northern India, isolated hailstorm activity will be observed in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, East Uttar Pradesh on April 8. In the Northeast light to moderate rainfall will be over Arunachal Pradesh till April 13. Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura will witness rains till April 11.

The met department has warned of an intense rainfall spell over east India on April 8. "Isolated hailstorm activity likely over Bihar and Jharkhand April 8," IMD said.
