Initially, CCTV footage from the surrounding area did not provide any clear leads. An 18-member police team, led by senior inspector Sanjay Chavan, carried out forensic analysis and reconstruction of the incident site over several days. Forensic findings later indicated that the bullets may have originated from KRK's bungalow, which is located close to the residential complex. Following this development, the police questioned Kamaal R Khan and seized his licensed firearm. During interrogation, KRK reportedly admitted that the shots were fired from his weapon. He claimed that the gun discharged accidentally while he was cleaning it and checking its functioning. According to his statement, he aimed the weapon towards a nearby mangrove area, but environmental factors such as wind may have caused the bullets to travel further and hit the residential building.
