Republic Day: Historical Significance
The Republic Day is celebrated on January 26, as the modern lawbook Constitution of India came into effect on the same date in 1950 by replacing the Government of India Act (1935). The authorities chose January 26 to adopt the constitution in 1950 to honour the declaration of Purna Swaraj by the Indian National Congress on January 26, 1930.
On this day, India celebrates its democratic values and sovereignty and remembers the sacrifices of the freedom fighters. Apart from this, the country also remembers the people behind the making of the constitution, including BR Ambedkar and Rajendra Prasad.
