Gudibanda: Sri Sathya Sai District Collector A Shyam Prasad inaugurated the district's first "Bartan Bank" in Karikera village of Gudibanda mandal on Tuesday, aiming to promote a plastic-free environment.
The initiative, which provides steel utensils for community use, is designed to reduce dependence on single-use plastics during social and public events.
Addressing a gathering after the inauguration, the Collector praised the unity and efforts of the women in Karikera village, calling them a model for the district.
He noted that many families in the village are adopting multiple livelihood options and progressing economically.
Emphasizing the importance of sustainability, he urged residents to make effective use of the Bartan Bank facility and contribute to transforming the village into a plastic-free zone.
Members of local self-help groups attended the event in uniform, showcasing their collective strength and coordination.
Officials including DRDA Project Director Narasayya, DPO Samatha, ZP Additional CEO Venkatasubbayya, along with district and mandal-level officers and local leaders, were present at the programme.
