The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has announced the launch of its ATAL Academy Offline Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs) for 2026-27, aimed at strengthening faculty capacity building in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. In a communication to the Higher Educational Institutions, it said that the initiative seeks to empower educators, researchers, and postgraduate students with advanced skills in emerging technologies, leadership, and pedagogy, positioning India as a global knowledge hub.
FDPs will be held offline at AICTE-approved institutions in engineering, management, design, hotel management, applied arts, and computer applications. Programs are offered as Basic FDPs (6 days) for assistant professors, PhD scholars, and PG students, and Advanced FDPs (12 days) for senior faculty and researchers.
Basic FDPs will emphasise domain knowledge, applied labs, pedagogy, and research trends, and will require industrial visits and article reviews. Advanced FDPs will focus on interdisciplinary teamwork, industry-linked problem-solving, live project development, and exposure to cutting-edge research. Hands-on assignments with national laboratories and industry leaders will be key. Participants must earn at least 70% from attendance, assessments, summaries, visit reports, practicals, and reflection journals. For advanced FDPs, industry problem-solving has the highest weightage.n.
The scheme identifies key areas: quantum technology, hydrogen energy, cyber-physical systems, semiconductors, disaster management, Industry 4.0/5.0, and sustainable development. It also introduces specialised tracks for polytechnics and newly approved BBA and BCA institutions, ensuring inclusivity across India's higher education ecosystem.FDPs will use collaborative, experiential, and outcome-based learning, integrating case studies, debates, labs, and industry views. Reflection journals support introspection and the application of lessons.
By embedding industrial exposure, interdisciplinary collaboration, and advanced research orientation, AICTE's ATAL FDPs are set to make faculty development a cornerstone of India's higher education reform. This initiative strengthens teaching and learning and aligns academia with national priorities in innovation, sustainability, and global competitiveness.
