Akhilesh Yadav Criticises BJP For Allegedly Attacking Mahua Moitra

The Hans India 3 months ago

Akhilesh Yadav, the president of the Samajwadi Party called out the incident where the BJP workers allegedly threw eggs at Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra in West Bengal.

The incident was highly condemnable and must be given a fresh hearing by Speaker and judiciary," said Yadav.

Moitra allegedly faced the protests by BJP workers, who threw eggs at her during a visit to the Nadia district in West Bengal. In a post on X, Yadav mentioned about the incident by accusing the BJP of misusing its authority in states under its control, "particularly in West Bengal," of politicising the police and fostering a "poisonous atmosphere of political violence."

He also shared a video of Moitra along with his post.

He further pointed out that even the BJP leadership and workers are opposed to such attacks as they do not want anything similar to be repeated in the states where the party is not in power or when it loses power. The BJP's top leaders "may continue to be shielded by their security vetting but the ordinary party members will be exposed to the fury of the public on the streets".

The incident was "highly condemnable", he said and urged the Speaker of the Lok Sabha to "take urgent notice" of the situation.

In the meantime, Moitra alleged that on Wednesday, BJP workers pelted eggs at her and shouted obscene remarks during a protest outside the Nadia district home of party MLA Alifa Ahmed. Moitra had been in Kaliganj to attend a meeting of the TMC at Ahmed's house in Palashi when some protesters allegedly rallied outside and shouted "chor" and "go back".
