Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh has achieved a significant milestone in grassroots governance by securing five prestigious honours in the National Panchayat Awards 2025, announced by the ministry of panchayat raj, Government of India.

Of the total recognitions, the state secured two first places, one second place and two third places at the national level.

In addition to national recognition, the state has received financial incentives totalling Rs.4.75 crore. These funds are expected to further strengthen Panchayati Raj institutions, enhance service delivery, and support developmental initiatives at the grassroots level.

The awards were presented under two categories - Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar (DDUPSVP) and Nanaji Deshmukh Sarvottam Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar (NDSPSVP) - which recognise excellence in achieving Localized Sustainable Development Goals (LSDGs). Under the DDUPSVP category, Srungavaram gram panchayat of Nathavaram mandal in Anakapalli district and Bokkasam Palem of Srikalahasthi mandal in Tirupati district secured first place at the national level. Srungavaram was honoured under the 'Good Governance Panchayat' category, while Bokkasam Palem was recognised as a 'Women-Friendly Panchayat,' with each receiving a cash award of Rs 1 crore.

Chemmullapalli gram panchayat of Khajipet mandal in YSR Kadapa district secured second place under the 'Poverty-Free and Enhanced Livelihoods Panchayat' category and received Rs 75 lakh. Gundamala gram panchayat in Kothapatnam mandal of Prakasam district secured third place in the 'Self-Sufficient Infrastructure' category, earning Rs.50 lakh.

Under the NDSPSVP category, Kuppam mandal in Chittoor district was recognised at the block level for its overall performance across LSDG themes. It secured third place at the national level and received a cash award of Rs.1.50 crore.

On the occasion, panchayat raj and rural development commissioner V R Krishna Teja Mylavarapu said the awards reflect Andhra Pradesh's strong commitment to grassroots governance and sustainable rural development. He noted that effective implementation of welfare schemes, transparency, and community participation helped achieve these recognitions.
