Apple Releases iOS 27 Public Beta with Siri AI Features

Apple Releases iOS 27 Public Beta with Siri AI Features

Last month, Apple unveiled its latest generation of operating systems at WWDC 2026, including iOS 27. With this update, the Cupertino giant is going all-in on AI, completely revamping Siri.

Now, you can try it out thanks to the iOS 27 public beta.

To give you an idea, the iOS 27 public beta is a preview of the full official release, which is expected to arrive alongside the iPhone 18 Pro-likely in September of this year. In short, you get a sneak peek at the new iOS features before anyone else.

From Siri AI and enhanced AI features for Photos to a slider for adjusting "Liquid Glass," here is everything new in the iOS 27 public beta.

Siri AI takes centre stage

After trailing competitors like ChatGPT and Gemini in the AI assistant space, Apple is now betting big on Siri. Rebranded as Siri AI, the virtual assistant is now powered by Google's Gemini AI models and has its own dedicated app.

Apple claims that Siri AI can hold fluid conversations, understand follow-up questions, and search for personal information across Mail, Messages, Notes, Reminders, Calendar, and other apps. In short, Siri AI is now smarter when you ask for help.

The AI assistant can also perform actions within apps, answer more general questions, and interact with on-screen content. Additionally, your entire chat history with Siri AI is saved to iCloud. This feature includes controls for pacing and expressivity, allowing you to customise how Siri speaks to you.

Keep in mind that Siri AI is tied to Apple Intelligence compatibility. This means you can only use the new AI assistant on an iPhone 15 Pro or later. Initially, Siri AI supports specific English variants and is not currently available in the European Union.

iOS 27 Public Beta: What else is new? Beyond Siri, Apple has expanded the use of AI tools throughout various apps. The Photos app includes a more powerful "Cleanup" tool that removes objects from images more effectively than in previous versions. It also includes the "Extend" feature, which allows images to be expanded using AI. Additionally, Apple has added "Spatial Reframing" to adjust the apparent camera position after a photo is taken.

Safari is also getting an update. It now allows users to organise tabs by topic, group bookmarks and Reading List items, monitor webpage changes, and create custom extensions based on natural language instructions.

In iOS 27 public beta, the Passwords app can automatically replace weak or compromised passwords that meet specific criteria, while the Shortcuts app enables the creation of automations using simple voice commands. This version also includes natural language event creation in Calendar, writing assistance via Siri, and automatic spell and grammar checking.

Apple also highlights speed improvements in iOS 27. The company claims that apps open up to 30% faster, newly captured photos appear up to 70% faster, and AirDrop transfers are up to 80% faster.

Other public beta changes include improvements to "Liquid Glass" to optimise readability, featuring a new slider that adjusts the effect from full transparency to a solid tint. Screen Time and child safety features have also been updated, including a redesigned dashboard. The Messages app allows large media files to continue sending in the background, while Photos finally adds high-resolution shared albums and more collaboration options. Furthermore, years after Android introduced this feature, it is now possible to adjust the alarm volume independently of the general system volume on the iPhone. AirPods also feature a custom equaliser for bass, mid, and treble frequencies.
