According to Axis My India chief Pradeep Gupta, the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026 witnessed a significant challenge for pollsters due to a large section of "silent voters." He noted that many people either refused to respond or avoided sharing their political preferences, largely because of fear linked to possible violence or repercussions during the election process.
Gupta explained that this reluctance to speak openly made it difficult to accurately capture voter sentiment on the ground. In some cases, voters did not even acknowledge survey teams, highlighting the intensity of the situation and the limitations of traditional exit poll methods.
At the same time, the elections recorded exceptionally high voter participation, with turnout figures reaching historic levels across phases. This surge in participation indicates strong public engagement but also adds complexity to predicting outcomes, as high turnout combined with silent voters can significantly impact final results.
The combination of fear, non-responsiveness, and record-breaking turnout suggests that exit polls in West Bengal may face accuracy challenges, making the final results more unpredictable than usual.
