The University of Hyderabad has achieved a significant milestone by being formally nominated as the Lead Knowledge Institution for the Government of Telangana under the State Support Mission of NITI Aayog, Government of India.

The Planning Department, Government of Telangana, communicated the nomination, recognising the university's multidisciplinary expertise and research capabilities to support evidence-based governance and policy transformation in the state.

According to a university communique issued on Monday, under this prestigious initiative, the institution will contribute heavily to strengthening the state's institutional capacities through research-based policy inputs, technical expertise, monitoring and evaluation frameworks, data analytics, sectoral studies, and capacity-building support. The university will work closely with the Planning Department and relevant government agencies to develop actionable policy recommendations and thematic action plans aligned with Telangana's developmental priorities.

The collaborative engagement is expected to cover multiple strategic sectors, including economics and finance, agriculture and allied sectors, industry and infrastructure, social sectors covering health and education, technology and entrepreneurship, urban development, data analytics and monitoring, alongside human resource development. This vital initiative will help the Government of Telangana align its development priorities, strengthen institutional capacities, and build evidence-based policy frameworks to achieve the comprehensive Vision 2047 goals, ensuring inclusive, sustainable, and innovation-driven regional growth.

Expressing happiness over this achievement, Vice-Chancellor J Anuradha stated that the nomination is a matter of immense pride for the entire university community. She expressed sincere gratitude to the Government of Telangana, particularly the Planning Department, for reposing confidence in the university and selecting it for this important responsibility.

She added that the initiative presents an excellent opportunity for faculty and researchers to translate academic knowledge into actionable policy support and public impact, encouraging members across schools, departments, and centres to work collaboratively to make this partnership a model of university-government engagement.
