BJP chief calls Khanapur win a 'turning point' in state politics

BJP chief N Ramachander Rao said the verdict in the municipal elections in Khanapur in favour of the BJP was a turning point in Telangana politics.

Addressing the BJP Vijayotsava held on Monday to celebrate the oath-taking of Ankam Mounika as Municipal Chairperson of Khanapur, he asserted that, though Khanapur is a small municipality, its results have sent a strong message to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and the Congress party.

Rao emphasised that the Khanapur victory was not merely local but a clear signal of the BJP's growing strength in the state. He accused Congress leaders of attempting to "murder democracy" through the misuse of police and intimidation, but said the people of Khanapur responded with a decisive verdict. He also clarified that the BRS party's stance in Khanapur was an independent local decision aligned with the people's wishes, dismissing speculation of wider political motives.

Declaring that the BJP will fight alone in Telangana, Rao categorically ruled out alliances, stating: "There will be no stepping back anymore; the BJP will move ahead with greater courage and speed.

He criticised proposals linking Assembly seat delimitation to per capita income, calling it a reflection of feudal mentality that sidelines backward regions in favour of wealthy urban centres like Hyderabad.d.

He argued that such thinking deepens inequality, while the Modi government works with the principle of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Prayas, Sabka Vishwas to ensure balanced development.

A significant portion of his speech highlighted women's empowerment. Rao contrasted Congress's decades-long inaction on women's reservation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiatives, including the abolition of triple talaq and the introduction of 33% reservation for women in legislatures.

He hailed the election of Ankam Mounika as Chairperson as proof of the BJP's commitment to gender equality, urging women across Telangana to unite as Nari Shakti in support of Modi's vision.

Turning to state governance, Rao criticised the Telangana government's handling of farmer welfare schemes like Rythu Bandhu, citing a recent farmer suicide as evidence of failure. He also questioned claims of job creation, pointing to the absence of tangible results. Rao credited visible progress in infrastructure, particularly national highways, to Central government support rather than to state initiatives.

Rao expressed confidence that the Khanapur victory would be the foundation for the BJP's rise across Telangana, predicting eventual state-level power. He assured that, under the leadership of Chairperson Ankam Mounika, Khanapur would be developed into a model town with full support from the BJP and the Central government. The Vijayotsava was attended by MPs, MLAs, party workers and people of Khanapur.
