Breast cancer surgery successful at KIMS Rural Hospital

Bhubaneswar: Doctors at the KIMS Rural Hospital at Kalarabank in Kataka district successfully performed breast cancer surgery on a financially disadvantaged woman, reflecting the institution's commitment to advanced rural healthcare.

The 55-year old patient of Saiporuan village was admitted to the hospital after being diagnosed with left breast cancer. Dr V K Sengupta said she was unable to undergo treatment at government or private hospitals in Kataka or Bhubaneswar due to financial hardship and lack of family support.

The medical team at KIMS Rural Hospital performed her breast cancer surgery on June 25, significantly subsidising the cost due to her circumstances. Following a successful recent operation, the patient has recovered well and returned to normal life.

Dr Sengupta credited the rural hospital's advanced equipment and infrastructure for the successful surgery. He also credited KIIT and KIMS founder Achyuta Samanta's visionary leadership for bringing quality healthcare to his native village. He further stated that, to the best of his knowledge, this is likely the first successful major cancer surgery performed in a rural health setup in Odisha.
