Markapur: Minister for Roads and Buildings BC Janardhan Reddy expressed joy to attend the traditional bullock race event as part of Sri Lakshmichennakesava Swamy Brahmotsavams at Markapur on Friday.

He noted that bullock races reflect Telugu culture and tradition, and that despite changing times and advancing technology, these races continue to bring cheer to rural communities. He congratulated Surender Reddy for setting a record at the event and encouraged farmers to embrace the sport with a spirit of sportsmanship, regardless of victory or defeat.

He praised organisers for promoting the fast-disappearing Ongole breed of bulls and for educating today's youth about the significance of such traditional competitions.

Being a son of a farmer, he also appreciated farmers who raise and maintain bulls with great affection and effort despite rising costs. Turning to development, the Minister praised local MLA Kandula Narayana Reddy for his relentless pursuit of Pula Subbaiah Velugonda Project, noting that the previous government had merely staged a drama by dedicating it to the nation.

He credited the collective local efforts and Chief Minister N Chandrababu's farmer-friendly commitment for bringing the project closer to fruition. He also acknowledged the MLA's role in establishing Markapur district.
