Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet, at a meeting on Thursday chaired by Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, approved a series of major infrastructure, capital development, irrigation, and welfare proposals involving thousands of crores, marking a significant push to accelerate developmental works across the state, particularly in Amaravati.
Briefing the media after the meeting, Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav said the Cabinet granted combined administrative approval of Rs 2,540 crore for advanced structural works in the Integrated State Secretariat and Heads of Departments (HoD) office complexes in Amaravati. The works include glass cladding, atriums, skylights, solar panels and related infrastructure, to be executed under a design-and-build contract model.
The Cabinet also approved Rs 1,208.41 crore for the shell and core construction of twin office towers in the Quantum Valley project, aimed at strengthening the administrative and business ecosystem in the capital region.
In a key revision, Rs 443.26 crore was sanctioned for flood protection works along the Krishna River, with the scope modified from retaining walls to embankments on both sides. Fresh tenders will be invited for these works.
Further, Rs 798 crore was approved for civil structural works of the Legislative Assembly building, including the spire, roof structures, parking ring, and approach bridges. The Cabinet also cleared a revised estimate of Rs 1,180.54 crore for underground cabling of 220 KV EHV power lines within CRDA limits.
Urban infrastructure received a boost with Rs 580 crore sanctioned for integrated development works in Undavalli village under the Land Pooling Scheme, covering roads, drainage, water supply, sewage systems, power, and ICT infrastructure.
The Cabinet approved amendments to land pooling rules to streamline implementation and cleared land allocations to institutions, including Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and educational bodies in the Amaravati region.
For the ports sector, an additional Rs 354.23 crore was approved for the Ramayapatnam greenfield port project in Prakasam district due to changes in dredging scope and logistics.
To support agricultural operations, the Cabinet allowed AP MARKFED to raise Rs 1,800 crore as working capital through the National Cooperative Development Corporation for paddy procurement and public distribution.
The Cabinet also approved construction of a new Andhra Pradesh Bhavan in New Delhi at a cost of Rs 124.50 crore, to be executed by NBCC (India) Limited.
For the irrigation sector, revised approval of Rs 309.92 crore was granted for modernisation of the Punganur BranchCanal under the Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanthi project. Additional works under the Polavaram project were also cleared, along with enhanced compensation for displaced families.
Besides, the Cabinet approved allocation of land for an international sports-centric school in Tirupati district and around 600 acres in Puttaparthi for a defence project under Defence Research and Development Organisation.
Revised administrative approval of Rs 1,586.69 crore was granted for three fishing harbours in Srikakulam, Anakapalli and Prakasam districts.
Additionally, the Cabinet approved administrative and staffing measures, including promotion-related restructuring in the AP Special Protection Force and land allocations for housing, institutions and offices of the Telugu Desam Party on a long-term lease basis.
