Inaugurating a modern computer laboratory set up with the support of donors, the Minister said the institution has a rich legacy spanning several decades. She noted that thousands of students who studied at CKM College have gone on to excel in various fields, serving as doctors, engineers, and IAS and IPS officers, besides settling abroad.

She stated that development works could not be taken up earlier as the college functioned as an aided institution.

With the government now taking it over, steps are being initiated to assess its requirements and ensure holistic development. A Detailed Project Report (DPR) is being prepared to chart out the college's future development plan, she said, adding that the issue of faculty shortage is also under the government's consideration.

Appreciating the contribution of the US-based Deshpande Foundation, the Minister said Murthy couple donated Rs 25 lakh to provide computers for students' skill development. She expressed happiness that they travelled from the United States to attend the inauguration and added that air conditioners would soon be installed in the lab.

Highlighting the benefits of the skill development programme, she said that around 91 out of every 100 trained students are likely to secure employment, with annual salaries ranging from Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 5 lakh. She said the initiative would greatly benefit graduates seeking job opportunities.

The Minister also conveyed her gratitude to the Deshpande Foundation, the Murthy couple, District Collector Dr Satya Sharada, and all others who contributed to the initiative.
