Etapakka (Bhadrachalam): TheCentral Reserve Police Force (CRPF) 212 Battalion celebrated Valour Day (Shaurya Diwas) with great solemnity and enthusiasm at its Battalion Headquarters in Etapakka.
The programme began with officers and jawans paying homage to martyrs who laid down their lives in the line of duty. On the occasion, 2nd Commanding Officer-cum-Commandant Dinesh Kumar highlighted the significance of Valour Day, recalling the bravery displayed by CRPF personnel on April 9, 1965.
He noted that on that day, four companies of the 2nd Battalion of CRPF valiantly confronted an attack by an infantry brigade of the Pakistan Army on border outposts at Sardar and Tak. Despite being outnumbered, CRPF personnel successfully repelled the assault, preventing the enemy from advancing for nearly 12 hours.
According to the account shared during the programme, 34 Pakistani soldiers were killed and four were captured alive during the encounter.
Eight CRPF personnel were martyred and 19 were taken hostage.
The Commandant described the operation as an unparalleled example of courage and resilience in the history of paramilitary operations.
Later, the Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG) awardees HC/RO Malik Shahid (Force No. 041575346) and CT/GD P. Mari Raju (Force No. 135278006) were felicitated and their citations were read out in the presence of personnel.
