Bengaluru: A hoax bomb threat email sent to the Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE), a unit of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) at Byappanahalli in Bengaluru, caused momentary alarm on Monday morning.
The email, received at the official GTRE email address, was written in Tamil and claimed that M K Stalin's grandson Inbanidhi would be kidnapped. It further alleged that advanced explosive devices had been planted inside the GTRE campus and would detonate around 1:30 pm.
Following the complaint lodged by J. Thomas of DRDO, Byappanahalli police registered a case and sought assistance from the Cyber Crime police. A joint team including the Bomb Disposal Squad, Fire Brigade, and Dog Squad conducted a thorough search of the premises.
No explosives or suspicious materials were found, confirming the threat as false. DRDO officials expressed relief once the all-clear was given. Police have increased security as a precautionary measure at defence establishments in the city while continuing the investigation.
