Visakhapatnam: In a move aimed at bridging the gap between traditional pharmaceutical sciences and modern technological advancements, GITAM Deemed to be University has announced the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) into its pharmacy curriculum starting from the 2026-27 academic year.
Addressing the media here on Thursday, Principal of the GITAM School of Pharmacy Prof L Srinivas emphasised that this strategic update is designed to prepare students for the rapidly evolving, data driven healthcare landscape.
Adhering to the latest guidelines set by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), the institution is introducing specialised modules that apply AI and ML to critical domains including formulation development, molecular modeling, and drug safety.
A significant highlight of the revised Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) syllabus is the inclusion of dedicated subjects such as 'Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Python Programming for Pharmacy,' ensuring that future graduates possess a robust foundation in both pharmaceutical expertise and computational proficiency.
Further, Srinivas highlighted that the primary outcome of the new curriculum is to produce professionals who are uniquely equipped to navigate technology-enabled healthcare environments.
The school's commitment to academic excellence is further validated by its National Board of Accreditation (NBA) status, a hallmark of high quality standards in technical education, he added.
Prospective students are encouraged to submit their applications online via the official GITAM website.
To support academic excellence, the university offers merit scholarships to high-performing students based on their scores in the GITAM Admission Test as well as state and national-level examinations including AP-EAPCET, TS-EAMCET, NEET, and JEE, as per university guidelines.
Senior faculty member Prof Annapoorna, admissions head Anish Kumar, and other key representatives were present.
