The municipal administration department received a significant election push as urban local bodies collected Rs 685 crore in property tax during the 2025 to 2026 financial year, compared to Rs 617 crore the previous year.

Corporations including Greater Warangal, Karimnagar, and Khammam recorded higher earnings. According to officials from the Commissioner and Director of Municipal Administration, overall collections rose from Rs 617.38 crore in 2024 to 2025 to Rs 685.04 crore during the 2025 to 2026 period. Total demand also increased from Rs 1,011 crore to Rs 1,179 crore over the same timeframe. Collections improved in 64 urban local bodies compared to the previous year, with Huzurabad and Jammikunta achieving 100 per cent collection rates again.

While 42 bodies achieved over 80 per cent during 2024 to 2025, 24 reached this milestone in 2025 to 2026. Sixteen of the twenty-one newly constituted bodies showed a marked increase in collection percentages. A senior official noted that 650 new handheld devices were distributed via ICICI and Axis banks to assist the process. Furthermore, local body elections in February helped generate revenue, as candidates were required to procure a no due certificate to contest. This rule enabled the collection of over Rs 20 crore in a single week, including Rs 8 crore from one individual in Nizamabad. Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation earned Rs 91.23 crore this year, up from Rs 74.91 crore previously. Karimnagar Corporation reached Rs 48.15 crore, compared to Rs 37.63 crore last year, while Khammam earned Rs 36.76 crore. However, some areas saw a decline. Kothagudem Corporation earned Rs 8.66 crore, less than the previous Rs 9.99 crore.

Mahabubabad recorded Rs 22.32 crore, a slight drop from Rs 22.96 crore. Overall, the mandatory financial compliance for election participants proved to be a vital catalyst for urban revenue mobilisation throughout the state, ensuring that municipalities have the necessary funds to maintain essential public services and infrastructure projects.
