Iran Negotiations Prompt JD Vance to Defer Switzerland Trip

Iran Negotiations Prompt JD Vance to Defer Switzerland Trip

The Hans India 19 hrs ago

The White House declared on Thursday night that Vice President J.D. Vance has postponed his planned visit to Switzerland. He was predictable to lead a new round of negotiations with Iran over its nuclear program.

The delay has cast doubt over the tentative agreement focused on the end of the conflict.

According to the information shared by the White House, Vance's team was ready to depart but planned to postpone the visit due to logistical challenges covering the talks. The announcement came soon after Al-Mayadeen, a pan-Arab television network connected with the Iranian-backed Lebanese group Hezbollah. It is reported that Iran was delaying the departure of its own allocation to Switzerland in response to Israel's ongoing military procedure in Lebanon.

However, Vance was basically cautious about U.S. involvement in a conflict with Iran. He has increasingly emerged as one of the administration's top voices on the issue and a major defender of the future agreement.

On Thursday, Vance made a rare look at the White House to publicly assist the initial deal. It would expand the ceasefire by 60 days and allow more time for U.S.-Iran negotiations. He focused that while the agreement includes concessions, Iran would first need to meet key U.S. demands before any progress could move forward.

"As they dial up their good behaviour, we can dial up the economic relief," Vance said. "If they dial down their good behavior, we can turn it off."

However, the vice president also had said during those comments that he was not sure of the timing of his intended trip to Switzerland. The talks might not start this week. The formal postponement now turns that even less clear.
