Nandyal: The enduring ideals of Babu Jagjivan Ram continue to serve as a guiding force for an equitable society, stated State Minister for Law and Minority Welfare NMD Farooq.
He was addressing the 119th birth anniversary celebrations of the veteran leader held in Nandyal on Sunday. The minister, along with district Collector G Raja Kumari, paid floral tributes and inaugurated the commemorative meeting attended by officials, public representatives, and members of various organisations.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister underlined Jagjivan Ram's remarkable contributions toward social justice, equality, and human dignity.
He noted that the reforms initiated during earlier decades played a crucial role in eliminating deep-rooted discrimination.
He also acknowledged the efforts of NT Rama Rao in promoting social awareness and honouring national leaders.
Emphasising the importance of constitutional values, he urged citizens and political leaders to work collectively for the protection of the rights of disadvantaged sections.
The minister further highlighted the need to strengthen sustainable agriculture and proposed the development of the Rayalaseema region as a horticulture hub to enhance economic growth.
Recalling Jagjivan Ram's contribution to the Green Revolution, he described it as a turning point in the country's agricultural progress. He also reiterated the demand to confer the Bharat Ratna on Jagjivan Ram and NT Rama Rao, and called for united efforts to address public issues effectively.
District Collector G Raja Kumari said that Jagjivan Ram's life journey stands as a powerful example of perseverance and achievement. She encouraged young people to draw inspiration from his legacy and strive for excellence.
Highlighting the role of labour laws in ensuring social security and progress, she observed that such frameworks enable individuals to overcome challenges and succeed. She also recalled his leadership during the 1971 war and his distinguished service in various key positions, noting that his commitment to national development remains an inspiration for future generations.
