Jan Aushadhi medical store inaugurated in Nandyal to provide affordable medicines

Nandyal: A new Jan Aushadhi Medical Store aimed at providing quality medicines at affordable prices to the poor and middle-class sections was inaugurated at the Government General Hospital premises in Nandyal on Wednesday.

The initiative was jointly facilitated by JSW, Ramco, and Rain Cement companies under the aegis of the Indian Red Cross Society. State Minister for Law and Minority Welfare NMD Farooq formally inaugurated the facility, while Nandyal MP Dr. Byreddy Shabari attended as the chief guest. The programme was presided over by District Collector and Red Cross District President G. Raja Kumari.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Farooq stated that the primary objective of the Jan Aushadhi scheme is to ensure the availability of high-quality medicines at very low prices for economically weaker sections. He noted that the establishment of the store was approved through a resolution of the Hospital Development Committee based on the initiative of the District Collector. He also urged Red Cross representatives to expand services and ensure the availability of all essential medicines for public benefit.

District Collector Raja Kumari highlighted that several health-related initiatives, including a blood storage centre and the "Your Doctor at Your Doorstep" programme, have been successfully implemented in the district within a short span. She said the launch of the Jan Aushadhi Medical Store is another significant step towards improving healthcare accessibility for the poor and appealed to the public to make full use of the facility.

MP Dr. Byreddy Shabari expressed happiness over the establishment of the centre under the Prime Minister's Jan Aushadhi scheme, which ensures quality medicines at low cost. On this occasion, donations were announced by various contributors, including Rs 1 lakh from businessman Golla Sudarshanam, Rs.3,21,779 from JSW Cement, Rs 3 lakh from Ramco Cement, Rs 1 lakh from Rain Cement, and Rs 1 lakh from the District Collector's office. Red Cross officials and participating company representatives were felicitated for their contributions.
