Bengaluru : A 60-year-old lorry driver died on the spot after a speeding truck rammed into another lorry halted at a traffic signal near the Mysore Road Satellite Bus Stand in Bengaluru early Wednesday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Vijay Kumar. The accident occurred around 4 am when the driver of a lorry approaching from behind reportedly lost control while descending the Mysore Road flyover. According to preliminary information, the vehicle had already brushed against a few other vehicles along the way before crashing into a stationary lorry at the signal.

The impact of the collision was severe, leaving Vijay Kumar trapped inside the mangled cabin. He suffered fatal injuries and died on the spot due to the intensity of the crash, police said.

The lorry involved in the accident was reportedly transporting vegetables for Swiggy Instamart. It was travelling from Malur in Kolar district towards RR Nagar when the mishap occurred. The stationary lorry was waiting at the signal when it was hit from behind at high speed.

Traffic police and local authorities rushed to the spot immediately after the incident. The damaged vehicles were later cleared from the road to restore traffic movement, which had been briefly disrupted due to the accident.

The body of the deceased driver has been shifted to Victoria Hospital near KR Market for post-mortem examination.

A case has been registered, and traffic police have begun an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. Preliminary findings suggest that overspeeding and possible driver fatigue may have contributed to the crash.

The incident has once again raised concerns over reckless driving by heavy vehicle operators during early morning hours, when roads are relatively empty, often leading to fatal accidents.
