Mental health awareness drive held at GMC Nizamabad

Nizamabad: The Department of Psychiatry at Government Medical College and Government General Hospital, Nizamabad, organised a mental health awareness programme to promote understanding of mental well-being among students.

As part of the initiative, poster-making and essay-writing competitions were conducted for MBBS and nursing students to encourage awareness, creativity and social responsibility towards mental health issues. Government Medical College Principal Dr N. Krishnamohan, who attended as the chief guest, stressed the need to expand mental health services in rural areas. He urged medical students to actively participate in awareness campaigns and drug de-addiction programmes and help dispel misconceptions surrounding mental illness and substance abuse. Medical Superintendent Dr L. Ramulu appreciated the Psychiatry Department's efforts in promoting mental health awareness.

The programme was organised under the guidance of Professor Dr Vishal Akula, Head of the Department of Psychiatry, and witnessed participation from faculty members, postgraduate students, house surgeons, MBBS students and nursing students. The department stated that similar awareness programmes would continue in the future to strengthen mental health outreach and drug abuse prevention efforts.
