Singarayakonda: Social Welfare Minister Dr Dola Sree Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy inaugurated Anna Canteen at Singarayakonda on Wednesday. He said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu launched Anna Canteen scheme inspired by the late NT Rama Rao's vision of feeding the needy.
As part of second phase, 62 Anna Canteens are being launched in rural areas, in addition to 207 already operational in urban areas. Meals and tiffin are provided to customers at Anna Canteens at just Rs 5 each, he observed, noting that the canteens collectively serve 2.2 lakh people daily.
In the erstwhile Prakasam district, Anna Canteens at Yerragondapalem, Darsi, and Singarayakonda commenced lunch service from Wednesday. The Minister also announced a Rs 3 crore road-widening project for Singarayakonda and plans to establish a cooperative supermarket under the Agricultural Cooperative Society, Kanumalla.
