Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh is witnessing contrasting weather conditions, with intense heatwaves affecting several regions while other regions experience thunderstorms and rainfall, according to State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) Managing Director Prakhar Jain.

Prakhar stated here on Sunday that the highest temperatures of the season were recorded in Gudur of Nellore district at 46.2°C and Kopperapadu in Prakasam district at 46.1°C. Several other places also reported extreme heat, including Kambham (45.7°C), Bonupalle in Tirupati district (45.6°C), Nadigadda in Palnadu (44.2°C), Karamchedu in Bapatla (44°C), Thovi in Kurnool (43.9°C), and Thavanampalle in Chittoor (43.8°C). Temperatures above 43°C were recorded also in parts of Anantapur, Kadapa, Nandyal, and NTR districts.

A total of 286 mandals across 16 districts experienced severe heat, with temperatures exceeding 41°C. Kadapa and Nellore districts each reported 33 affected mandals, followed by Tirupati (31), Prakasam (28), Palnadu (25), Markapuram (21), Nandyal (20), Chittoor (20), Kurnool (18), and Bapatla (16 mandals).

At the same time, a trough extending from south Chhattisgarh through Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu up to the Kanyakumari region is influencing weather patterns. Due to this, light to moderate rains accompanied by thunderstorms are expected in districts such as Anakapalli, Kakinada, and Konaseema, while light rains with lightning are likely in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Manyam, Alluri, Polavaram, Visakhapatnam, Chittoor, and Tirupati districts.

Farmers and agricultural workers have been cautioned to avoid working in open fields during thunderstorms and not to take shelter under trees during lightning.

Significant rainfall was recorded on Sunday evening, with Mummidivaram in Konaseema receiving 72.7 mm, Katrenikona 57.7 mm, Peddapuram 50.2 mm, Pithapuram 45.5 mm, and several parts of Kakinada district receiving over 40 mm rainfall, indicating the ongoing weather variability across the state.
