Monsoon Approaches as Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Experience Heavy Rains

Monsoon Approaches as Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Experience Heavy Rains

The Hans India 0 months ago

Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are witnessing a significant shift in weather conditions, with the scorching heat giving way to heavy rains and cooling temperatures.

The much-anticipated Southwest Monsoon is set to arrive within the next day or two, bringing relief from persistent heat and humidity.

On Thursday night, several districts across both states experienced heavy rainfall, accompanied by gusty winds, thunder, and lightning. In some areas, the weather caused chaos, with fallen trees and damaged electrical infrastructure. Residents reported intense storms that disrupted normal life and instilled fear.

The Meteorological Department forecasts that the monsoon will reach the Kerala coast by June 3rd or 4th, having already arrived in Lakshadweep, and is expected to expand further in the coming week. The Hyderabad Meteorological Centre announced that the monsoon is likely to enter Telangana between June 5th and 10th, with significant weather changes beginning from June 1st. While dry conditions are forecast for the next three days, moderate rainfall is expected in several regions.

APS DMA Managing Director Prakhar Jain stated, "Under the influence of a surface trough, moderate rains accompanied by lightning are likely to occur sporadically on Friday in districts such as Markapuram, Prakasam, Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai, Kadapa, Annamayya, and Chittoor." He added that the state is experiencing contrasting weather, with some areas facing intense heat and others experiencing thunderstorms. He warned that "severe heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in 79 mandals, while heatwave effects will be felt in 152 mandals."

Rainfall in Key Districts

Heavy rains with gusty winds swept across several districts. In Krishna's Gudivada, thunderstorms caused roads to flood and plunged the town into darkness as strong winds uprooted trees and snapped electric poles. The weather was calm until the afternoon, when sudden heavy rainfall struck, leaving the streets waterlogged.

Vijayawada, Machilipatnam, Tiruvuru, and Mylavaram also saw heavy rainfall, with gusty winds causing widespread disruption. Several electric poles fell, trees were uprooted, and roads were obstructed.

In East Godavari, rains and strong winds affected Rajahmundry, where roads flooded and power was cut off citywide. Motorists faced difficulties navigating flooded streets.

In West Godavari, weather turned cooler and more pleasant after the evening, but gusty winds caused trees to topple and hoardings to blow away. Authorities preemptively suspended power supply in several areas following the gusts.

Rains also lashed the Paderu Agency region of Alluri Sitarama Raju district, with Paderu experiencing heavy rainfall and hailstones, while Araku faced heavy downpours. Chintapalli received light rainfall.

In Bhadradri Kothagudem district, heavy rainfall was reported in Yellandu, Kothagudem, Manuguru, Aswaraopeta, Burgampadu, Pinapaka, and Karakagudem. The strong winds toppled trees and electricity poles, causing disruption on roads across these mandals.
