Naidu calls for AI-led revenue drive

Vijayawada: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday directed revenue-generating departments to deploy AI-based monitoring systems, tighten tax enforcement and accelerate collection of pending central dues as the State targets internal revenue of Rs 1.27 lakh crore in 2026-27.

At a review meeting with senior officials from commercial taxes, excise, mines, transport, registration and finance departments, Naidu said Andhra Pradesh must strengthen its own fiscal capacity alongside efforts to secure higher fund flows from the Centre.

Officials informed the meeting that State Own Revenue (SOR) increased to Rs 1.10 lakh crore in 2026 from Rs 1.04 lakh crore in 2025, reflecting annual growth of around 6 per cent.

GST collections contributed Rs 33,679 crore during 2025-26, while revenues from mines stood at Rs 10,300 crore and Stamps and Registration generated Rs 11,047 crore.

Naidu instructed departments to prevent revenue leakages through technology-led enforcement systems, including AI-based scrutiny of GST returns, mining activity monitoring and transport compliance tracking.

The Chief Minister said departments must ensure "zero revenue loss" as large industrial investments begin translating into economic activity across manufacturing, infrastructure, energy and logistics sectors.

Officials told the meeting that the State recorded 38 per cent revenue growth during the first 42 days of 2026-27, which the government views as an early indicator of accelerating collections.

Naidu also directed officials to increase tax efficiency without creating harassment for businesses or citizens, stressing that compliance systems should remain technology-driven and transparent.

The government separately reviewed reforms in municipal taxation, professional tax collection and property assessment systems using GIS mapping, satellite imagery and drone surveys.

The Chief Minister instructed officials to speed up resolution of land disputes under Section 22A, arguing that clearing registration bottlenecks would directly improve stamp duty collections and property transactions.

Naidu also pushed departments to develop value-added industries around red sandalwood and rare earth minerals to strengthen export-linked revenue streams.
