Officials told to expedite flood mitigation works

Amaravati: Amaravati Development Corporation (ADC) chairperson and managing director D Lakshmi Parthasarathy directed officials to expedite flood-prevention and stream development works in the capital city ahead of the monsoon season.

During an inspection tour on Tuesday, she reviewed the ongoing development works on Kondaveeti Vagu and Pala Vagu, two major waterways passing through the Amaravati capital region.

The ADC CMD inspected bridge construction works at locations where the streams cross major roads, including N-4, N-6 (West Bypass), E-10 and E-12 corridors, before eventually joining the Krishna River. She instructed officials to ensure that accumulated silt and soil around bridge pillars are removed promptly to facilitate the free flow of water during heavy rains.

Particular attention was given to the bridge structures near Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, where Kondaveeti Vagu crosses the West Bypass.

As the area is prone to carrying large volumes of floodwater during the rainy season, Lakshmi Parthasarathy sought detailed information from ADC Chief Engineer B Narasimha Murthy regarding preparedness measures and the current status of works.

She directed engineering officials to intensify desilting operations beneath the West Bypass bridge located between E-10 and E-11 roads. The ADC CMD also inspected the ongoing E-13 road works near AIIMS Hospital and the E-15 road extension works in Mangalagiri town, reviewing progress and directing officials to maintain construction schedules.
