A 36-year-old man from Ghaziabad was arrested by Delhi Police on Thursday in connection to a string of hoex bomb threat emails to several organisations.
The organisations those who received the threats include the National Investigation Agency, the Indian Space Research Organisation, the Defence Research and Development Organisation and the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
An Air India flight from New Delhi to New York became the subject of a threat email leading to immediate security checks and alerts across agencies. Additionally, the police authorities stated that all relevant organisations were notified about the threatening email. Furthermore, all the routine safety procedures were followed, however, later it was found that the threats were a fake.
According to reports, the emails were received on June 29 and it mentioned that bombs had been planted at several high-security locations, including the headquarters of the NIA, ISRO, the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited, DRDO and the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
Police started an investigation after the incident and followed the email's digital path. Two email accounts that were thought to have been used to transmit the messages were examined as part of the technical investigation. Investigators discovered a phone number connected to the accounts after closely examining the email trail, according to officials.
On June 30, the police located the suspect in Sanyog Nagar, Ghaziabad, using technical monitoring. When the police arrived, they inspected the suspect, Nishant Tyagi, at his home. According to the police, Tyagi attended open schools and enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in 2010, but he never finished it.
Police began the preliminary investigation that he had allegedly been seeking treatment at different medical facilities for a mental disorder since 2008. According to investigators, his family members also informed the police about his lengthy medical history.
Meanwhile, during the investigation, no explosives or questionable items were found. According to police, an investigation is being conducted to determine the purpose of the emails and the circumstances surrounding their sending. Depending on the investigation's findings, more legal action will be taken.
