Hyderabad: In view of the upcoming monsoon, Police and Municipal Corporation jointly conducted an extensive field inspection across areas in Cyberabad on Wednesday.

They identified flood-prone locations and implemented precautionary measures to prevent rainwater accumulation on roads, ensuring smooth traffic flow.

Cyberabad Police Commissioner Dr M Ramesh and Cyberabad Municipal Commissioner Srujana, along with other officials, conducted an extensive field inspection across vulnerable areas in the Cyberabad Commissionerate limits.

The inspection was aimed at identifying flood-prone locations and implementing precautionary measures to prevent rainwater accumulation on roads, ensuring smooth traffic flow and minimizing inconvenience to the public during heavy rains.

According to CMC, they identified 202 water logging points in Cyberabad, including 83 major, 95 medium and 24 minor locations. Officials said nearly 98 per cent of desilting works had been completed. They also identified 161 dilapidated buildings within CMC limits.

Special attention was accorded to the stretch near Care Hospital at Malkam Cheruvu - Biodiversity Junction in the IT Corridor, where floodwater frequently reaches the roads during intense rainfall, causing major traffic bottlenecks and disruption to commuters.

The team also visited Hyderabad Central University Road, Harsha Toyota Showroom Junction in Kondapur, and several other low-lying areas that regularly experience flooding.

Officials from engineering and municipal departments accompanied the inspection team and were instructed to immediately identify the root causes of water stagnation and take permanent corrective measures.

During the inspection, Dr Ramesh emphasised that traffic disruptions during the rainy season not only affect daily commuters but also delay emergency services and public transportation. He directed the concerned departments to strengthen coordination and ensure swift execution of preventive works before the onset of heavy rains.

Municipal Commissioner Srujana stated that the civic administration is taking proactive steps to improve storm water and drainage systems, clear blocked drains, and monitor vulnerable junctions continuously throughout the monsoon period.

They said coordinated efforts between police, municipal authorities, and engineering departments are essential to ensure uninterrupted public movement and public safety during adverse weather conditions.

As part of the preparedness measures, officials were instructed to improve drainage connectivity and desilt storm water drains, deploy emergency response teams during heavy rainfall alerts, ensure traffic diversions and public advisories wherever necessary and take up permanent engineering solutions in chronic water logging zones.
