Vijayawada: NTR District Police Commissioner SV Rajasekhar Babu said cyber criminals were adopting new methods to commit banking and financial frauds and stressed the need for close coordination between banks and police to prevent such crimes.
Under the joint aegis of the NTR District Police Commissionerate and ICICI Bank Limited's Financial Crime Prevention Group, a special awareness workshop on 'Bank Frauds Prevention and Investigation' was organised at the Police Commissioner's office here on Wednesday under the supervision of Cyber Crime DCP K Krishna Prasanna.
Addressing the participants, the Commissioner said cyber and banking crimes were becoming increasingly complex and could be tackled effectively only through coordination between banks and law enforcement agencies. He advised the public not to panic over "digital arrest" scams through WhatsApp or video calls and clarified that no government agency would demand money from citizens.
The Commissioner urged victims of cyber or banking frauds to immediately call the 1930 cyber crime helpline and lodge complaints without delay. He said complaints registered during the "golden hour" after the fraud had a higher chance of helping authorities recover the lost money. During the workshop, officials discussed emerging financial crimes such as digital arrest scams, fake investment applications, loan app harassment and misuse of current accounts.
DCPs Krishna Kanth Patel, Shireen Begum, Dr K Tirumaleswara Reddy, KGV Saritha, and ABTS Udayarani, along with ACPs, Inspectors, Sub-Inspectors and ICICI Bank representatives Nilesh Deshpande, Rajneesh Khanna, Sandeep Mehra and Annaji Rao participated in the workshop.
