Mumbai: Actor-filmmaker Pooja Bhatt opened up about a powerful and lesser-known moment from her early career, revealing how her father and director Mahesh Bhatt firmly opposed the idea of dubbing her voice in the film *Daddy*.
Speaking on the upcoming episode of *Indian Idol*, Pooja shared that there had been intense discussions during the making of the film regarding her voice, with some suggesting it be replaced by a dubbing artist with a more "feminine" tone.
Recalling the incident, Pooja said that the debate had centred on whether her natural voice suited the character. However, Mahesh Bhatt stood firmly by her, refusing to compromise on authenticity. He had reportedly stated that audiences should either accept her as she is or reject her entirely, but not alter her identity through dubbing.
Describing the moment as life-defining, Pooja said her father not only preserved her voice but also gave her confidence and individuality as an actor. She admitted that she had always felt her voice was unconventional, which made her anxious in situations such as performing or speaking in front of established stars.
Mahesh Bhatt, who also appeared on the show, spoke candidly about casting Pooja in *Daddy*. He explained that he needed a young girl who could convincingly portray a daughter helping her alcoholic father overcome addiction. Despite acknowledging her nervous nature, he noted that she projected strength outwardly while battling fear internally.
Responding with humour, Pooja admitted she still experiences anxiety but believes it is essential for growth. She remarked that the day one stops feeling nervous is the day one stops evolving. Expressing gratitude for being part of *Indian Idol*, she said the experience was significant and not something she takes lightly.
The emotional exchange offered viewers a glimpse into the father-daughter bond and highlighted a defining moment that shaped Pooja Bhatt's journey in the film industry.
